The day before King’s Day 2023, Prof Arno Kentgens (Radboud University Nijmegen) was decorated as “Ridder in de Orde van de Nederlandse Leeuw” (Knight in the Order of the Lion of the Netherlands). Arno received the decoration from the Mayor of Nijmegen, Hubert Bruls. The decoration is an important national recognition of merits in the arts, science, sport and literature.

Arno is an internationally renowned expert in solid-state NMR. His work generates knowledge of materials such as PV materials, battery materials and plastics, and facilitates optimization and innovations in these important areas. One of the innovations Arno also developed is the so-called strip-line NMR for the analysis of small, sub-microliter, sample volumes. He is also one of the founders of uNMR-NL, the national collaboration on high-field NMR that hosts both the 950MHz and 1.2 GHz instrument in Nijmegen and Utrecht, respectively.

We know Arno as a very enthusiastic, professional, loyal and honourable scientist. He connects with academic scientist and scientists in the private sector alike, identifying and uniting their common interests. Arno also knows how to transfer his enthusiasm for NMR and its applications to younger generations of (potential) scientists, as also evidenced by his frequent contributions to the COAST talent programs.

COAST congratulates Arno, his group and his university with this decoration.
