Recently, the Smart*Light 2 project proposal was granted under Interreg Vlaanderen Nederland. The project will run for three years starting September 2023. Smart*Light 2 sets out to develop the configuration of a reliable optimized X-ray instrument that is based on the technology developed in Smart*Light (1).

The focus will be on fluorescence, diffraction, scattering, spectroscopy and tomography to study elementary composition, chemical composition, and nanostructure of materials. The analytical innovations will be tested and further optimized on materials such as metals, semiconductors, tissue and cultural heritage objects. The project aims to develop an instrument that will be used by the Dutch and Flemish research community and further expanded to a full-fledged research instrument.
